Orange, the prominent French telecommunications provider, has reported that it fell victim to a cyberattack, leading to significant service disruptions. The company disclosed the incident on Monday, revealing that the attack targeted one of its information systems on July 25. In response to the threat, Orange took immediate action to isolate the potentially affected services in an effort to mitigate the impact. This precautionary measure, however, has resulted in interruptions for various platforms, affecting business clients and certain public sector services primarily within France. The company has indicated that it is implementing solutions designed to restore services gradually, with a target of resuming full operations by Wednesday. Importantly, Orange has stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest that any internal or customer data has been compromised or exfiltrated. Despite inquiries from TechCrunch regarding the specifics of the cyberattack and the company's capacity to detect possible data breaches, Orange has not provided further comments. The company is actively communicating with affected customers and has lodged a complaint with the pertinent authorities. Under the EU's GDPR regulations, firms must report suspected data breaches to local authorities within three days, a requirement that Orange appears to be adhering to. Serving 291 million customers across 26 countries and employing 127,000 staff, Orange remains a leading figure in the telecommunications landscape.
