Oracle has initiated a wave of layoffs across its global operations as part of a strategic cost-cutting initiative, with notifications sent to employees on March 31, according to a report by Business Insider. While the full scope of the layoffs remains unclear, it appears that several business divisions—including Oracle Health, Sales, Cloud, Customer Success, and NetSuite—are significantly affected, as confirmed by LinkedIn posts from employees impacted by the cuts. As of May 2025, Oracle employed approximately 162,000 individuals worldwide. The company communicated to employees via email, stating, "After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change." Reports indicate that the layoffs in India could be particularly extensive, with estimates suggesting that around 12,000 employees may be impacted. Furthermore, additional layoffs are anticipated within the next month. For those affected in India, Oracle is reportedly offering a severance package that includes 15 days of salary for each completed year of service, along with a month’s unpaid wages until the termination date, leave encashment, and gratuity where applicable. Employees who voluntarily resign are also entitled to a one-month notice period payment, along with a two-month salary incentive as a top-up. However, the severance arrangements are said to apply only to those who resign amicably. The notification also stated that employee access to company systems would be terminated soon after the layoff notice. "Access to your computer, email, voicemail, and files will be deactivated soon, and you will be unable to log into your computer," the email warned, emphasizing that employees must not retain any confidential company data. Affected staff were instructed to provide a personal email address to receive further information, including separation documents and FAQs. Oracle’s layoffs are the latest in a series of job cuts sweeping through the tech industry. Earlier this year, Amazon announced it would eliminate approximately 16,000 corporate positions, following a prior reduction of 14,000 roles. Additionally, Meta has recently laid off hundreds of employees. Data from layoff tracker Layoffs.fyi highlights that 40,482 individuals across 71 tech companies have faced job losses in 2026.
