Oppo has officially launched the beta version of ColorOS 16, which is based on Android 16, following in the footsteps of OnePlus. This initiative allows users to experience the new user interface ahead of its official release. Interested users in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia can apply for the ColorOS 16 beta by completing a questionnaire. Currently, the beta is available for select Oppo devices, including the Oppo X8, Find X8 Pro, and Oppo Reno 14. Those eager to join the testing can apply from October 9 to 13. The official unveiling of ColorOS 16 is scheduled for October 15, with the Oppo Find X9 being the first device globally to feature the new interface. To apply for the beta, users should navigate to the Settings app, select About device, tap the top of the page, and then click the button on the top right. This will reveal the option to join the closed beta program. Once the application is accepted, users can return to the Update settings and select Download Now. Before proceeding with the update, users must ensure their devices are running specific versions, such as CPH2737_15.0.2.602(EX01) or CPH2737_15.0.2.502(EX01), and that the device is charged to at least 30% with sufficient storage space. It is also recommended to back up any important data prior to installation. As with any beta software, users may encounter temporary issues such as heating, lagging, and battery drain as the system optimizes performance. Users should also be aware of potential app crashes or compatibility challenges, which are expected to be addressed in future updates. ColorOS 16 promises to enhance user experience with smoother animations and improved multitasking capabilities. Leaked images on social media suggest that the new UI will feature extensive lock screen customizations, including widget support and a new Flux theme, along with expanded options for home screen icons and widgets. Additionally, enhancements to the Always on Display and new fingerprint animations are anticipated.
