The OPPO Find X8 Ultra has made quite an impression during my week of testing, showcasing itself as a top-tier Android flagship that inspires creativity in photography. Building on the impressive features of its predecessor, the Find X8 Pro, OPPO has enhanced the camera technology while subtly refining the overall design. However, its availability is a significant drawback—only accessible through imports outside of China, which brings certain compromises. In terms of design, the Find X8 Ultra has upgraded from the previous year's two-tone vegan leather back to a sleek matte finish, offering a more contemporary look. Its rounded edges make the 6.8-inch device surprisingly ergonomic, ensuring comfort during extended use. The front features a flat LTPO AMOLED display boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and an astonishing peak brightness of 2,500 nits. Watching HDR content on this screen is a delightful experience, with vibrant colors and rich blacks, all without excessive contrast. Powering this device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, delivering the performance you'd expect from a flagship. Whether you're gaming, editing high-resolution photos, or multitasking, it handles everything effortlessly. The standout feature, however, is the robust 6,100mAh silicon–carbon battery. Not only is it substantial in size, but it also excels in endurance. Even under heavy usage, I found it challenging to run the battery below 30% before bedtime, and on lighter days, it easily lasted into the second day without needing a charge. The camera system on the Find X8 Ultra is nothing short of exceptional—one of the best available in 2025. It features a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and two 50MP telephoto lenses with 3x and 6x optical zoom capabilities. The main camera captures stunningly detailed images with remarkable dynamic range, especially in low-light conditions, while retaining natural colors without the over-saturation often seen in other Android models. The 6x telephoto lens stands out for its crisp details and minimal noise, even in challenging lighting, and its macro performance is impressive, steering clear of the over-sharpened look common in competitor devices. The ultrawide lens performs admirably as well, though it does tend to oversaturate in bright daylight. Video capabilities have also seen significant improvements. The stabilization feels akin to that of a gimbal, lens-switching is seamless, and it supports 4K60 video recording, with an update for 4K120 on the horizon. Under the right circumstances, this phone emerges as a formidable opponent to the iPhone for video production. However, not everything is flawless. The decision to replace the alert slider with a “shortcut button” is a noted downside, offering limited customization and awkward integration into the camera features. Additionally, the major issue remains: the OPPO Find X8 Ultra is not officially available outside China. While importing is an option, it may come with carrier compatibility challenges (it works well with Jio in India) and higher costs. In conclusion, the OPPO Find X8 Ultra exemplifies excellence in smartphone photography, coupled with impressive battery longevity and a vibrant display. If it were available globally, it would undoubtedly be a top contender for the best flagship phone of the year. Unfortunately, until OPPO decides to extend its availability, this remarkable camera phone remains an elusive dream for many.
