OpenAI is reportedly asking contractors to upload real work from past jobs

OpenAI, in collaboration with Handshake AI, is reportedly requesting that contractors submit authentic work samples from their past and current positions. This initiative is believed to be part of a broader trend among AI companies that are onboarding contractors to create high-quality training datasets, with the ultimate goal of enabling their models to take on more white-collar tasks. According to a report from Wired, OpenAI has communicated to contractors the need to provide detailed accounts of their job responsibilities, along with actual work outputs. The examples requested range from Word documents and PDFs to PowerPoint presentations and code repositories, emphasizing the need for tangible evidence of their capabilities rather than mere summaries. To safeguard sensitive information, contractors are advised to remove any proprietary or personally identifiable data prior to submission. OpenAI has also introduced a tool called the ChatGPT “Superstar Scrubbing” to assist in this process. However, intellectual property attorney Evan Brown cautioned that this method could expose AI firms to significant risks, as it depends heavily on contractors to determine what information is confidential. An OpenAI representative did not provide any comments on the matter.
