On April 8, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman revealed an exciting milestone: the Codex AI software has now surpassed 3 million weekly users. To mark this achievement, OpenAI is lifting its usage restrictions, granting developers enhanced access to this powerful tool. In a post shared on X, Altman expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "To celebrate 3 million weekly Codex users, we are resetting usage limits. We will do this for every million users up to 10 million. Happy building!" This reset means that users will begin with a clean slate, allowing them to fully utilize their quota for the remaining period, regardless of previous usage. In addition to this announcement, OpenAI has revealed plans to phase out older AI models within Codex. Starting April 14, users will have access to the latest versions, including GPT 5.2-codex, GPT 5.1 codex mini, and others. This update comes as competitors like Anthropic introduce their new AI model, Claude Mythos, which is currently in preview for Project Glasswing. Thibault Sottiaux, head of Codex, also took to X to acknowledge the rapid growth of the user base, highlighting that it has risen from 2 million just a month prior. "Incredible to see the growth. Thank you to all of you and to the ecosystem we’re part of," he remarked, further emphasizing the company's commitment to supporting developers as they innovate with Codex.
