Could ChatGPT soon compose music? OpenAI is reportedly in the process of developing an innovative artificial intelligence tool that can generate music from both text and audio prompts, as highlighted in a recent report by The Information. This groundbreaking technology could empower users to enhance their video projects with unique soundtracks or even add instrumental elements, like guitar, to existing vocal recordings. While the exact launch date remains uncertain, there is speculation about whether this service will function as an independent product or be integrated into current OpenAI offerings, such as ChatGPT and the video application Sora. In an exciting collaboration, OpenAI is partnering with students from the prestigious Juilliard School to annotate musical scores. These annotations are anticipated to serve as crucial training data for the AI model, enhancing its capability to understand and create music in a more sophisticated, human-like way. Although OpenAI has previously explored generative music models, these initiatives occurred before the release of ChatGPT. Recently, the organization has concentrated on audio technologies for text-to-speech and speech-to-text applications. OpenAI's renewed focus on music generation marks a significant expansion of its creative AI initiatives, positioning the company alongside others in the industry, such as Google and Suno, who are also innovating in generative music technology. If successful, this tool could revolutionize the way musicians, video editors, and content creators produce music, eliminating the need for traditional instruments or complicated software setups. It may also pave the way for AI-assisted composition within both professional and educational contexts. Additionally, Bill Peebles, who leads OpenAI’s Sora video app, has shared an exciting update regarding new features on the platform. In a recent post on X, Peebles detailed a range of improvements, including enhanced content creation options and social engagement features. Among the highlights is a new functionality that allows users to create character cameos, enabling videos to feature pets, favorite toys, or entirely AI-generated characters. Peebles hinted at the potential for a surge of "wildly inventive cameos" once this feature is launched. Furthermore, Sora’s user interface will be revamped to prominently display trending cameos in real time, making it easier for users to explore and interact with popular creations.
