OpenAI hires Slack CEO Denise Dresser to lead global revenue strategy

In a significant leadership shift, OpenAI has announced the appointment of Denise Dresser, the CEO of Slack, as its new Chief Revenue Officer. Dresser will be responsible for shaping the global revenue strategy for the AI startup, focusing on customer success and enterprise operations. Dresser brings with her over a decade of executive experience from Salesforce, where she played a pivotal role before being appointed as Slack's CEO in 2023. This appointment follows Salesforce's acquisition of Slack, valued at over $27 billion in 2020. Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Dresser stated, "I've spent my career helping scale category-defining platforms, and I'm looking forward to bringing that experience to OpenAI as it enters its next phase of enterprise transformation." OpenAI, known for igniting the generative AI revolution with its ChatGPT chatbot three years ago, has rapidly evolved into one of the fastest-growing commercial ventures globally. The company recently projected that it is on track to achieve an annualized revenue run rate exceeding $20 billion this year, with ambitious plans to escalate sales to hundreds of billions by 2030. However, as competition intensifies from key players like Google and Anthropic, OpenAI faces mounting pressure to innovate and deliver results. The company has committed over $1.4 trillion towards infrastructure to enhance its technology, a move that has prompted discussions around a potential AI bubble. Currently, more than 800 million people interact with ChatGPT weekly, and OpenAI serves over 1 million business clients. Dresser's role will be crucial in assisting more companies in embedding AI within their operations. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of Applications, remarked, "We're on a path to put AI tools into the hands of millions of workers, across every industry. Denise has led that kind of shift before, and her experience will help us make AI useful, reliable, and accessible for businesses everywhere."
