OpenAI launches its first hardware device: A Codex keyboard priced at ...

OpenAI has officially introduced its first hardware offering, the Codex Micro keyboard, aimed at enhancing the coding experience for its Codex users. In a surprising move, the company has opted for a compact keyboard instead of the anticipated smartphone or smart speaker. The Codex Micro features RGB-style lighting and is tailored specifically for interaction with Codex, OpenAI's AI-powered coding assistant. This innovative keyboard is equipped with specialized controls designed to streamline coding tasks. Users will find dedicated Codex buttons that provide quick access to essential AI coding functions. Additionally, the keyboard includes a joystick for launching and navigating various AI workflows, along with a rotary encoder that allows users to adjust Codex's reasoning level. A unique Codex Icon Keyset adds flair, featuring 32 custom keycaps adorned with Codex-related icons that replace standard keys. Developed in collaboration with Work Louder, a company recognized for its custom mechanical keyboards, the Codex Micro is positioned as a premium tool for software developers who utilize ChatGPT's Codex. Its ability to manage multiple AI coding agents simultaneously sets it apart in the market. The keyboard also boasts innovative “Agent Keys” connected to OpenAI's Codex. These keys feature dynamic RGB lighting that indicates the status of the AI agent: white for idle, green for unread messages, blue for processing, peach for needing user input, and red for errors. Priced at $230 (approximately Rs 22,155), the Codex Micro keyboard is currently available for pre-order, although its availability in India has yet to be confirmed. It is important to note that, as reported by TechCrunch, the Codex Micro is a limited-edition product and is not intended for widespread distribution.
