OpenAI has rolled out an innovative feature named Pulse for ChatGPT, aimed at delivering daily customized updates tailored to users' interests, conversations, and linked applications. Currently, this feature is exclusive to Pro subscribers. In a recent announcement on X, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman hailed Pulse as his "favorite feature of ChatGPT so far." Pulse operates by curating relevant information overnight, drawing from recent chats, user preferences, and connected data streams. Each morning, users receive a refined set of updates designed just for them. "Imagine ChatGPT as an exceptionally capable personal assistant," said Altman, emphasizing that the tool’s effectiveness increases as users share more about their goals and interests. According to OpenAI's blog, Pulse performs asynchronous research, analyzing memory, chat history, and feedback nightly. The result is a series of visual cards presented the next day, featuring personalized suggestions that may include follow-ups on ongoing discussions, meal ideas, or actionable steps for long-term objectives like fitness routines. Users can fine-tune Pulse by selecting the “curate” option to receive specific updates, such as a roundup of events for the weekend or highlights from professional sports. Quick feedback features allow users to adjust the results, and they can easily dismiss unwanted suggestions. Moreover, Pulse integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar to enhance its contextual awareness. This capability allows ChatGPT to draft meeting agendas, propose birthday gifts, or recommend dining options for upcoming travels. Users have control over these integrations, which are initially disabled by default. OpenAI reassured users that all updates generated by Pulse undergo rigorous safety checks to prevent harmful or policy-violating content. However, the company acknowledged that, as the tool is still developing, users might encounter irrelevant suggestions from time to time. Updates are temporary, lasting only one day unless users opt to save them or seek more information, ensuring a fresh and focused experience. Pulse represents a significant shift for ChatGPT, evolving it from a reactive chatbot into a proactive digital assistant capable of researching, planning, and suggesting actions on the fly. OpenAI is actively exploring ways to enhance Pulse with additional app integrations and smarter functionality, such as sending reminders before meetings or surfacing useful resources exactly when required. "Pulse is just the beginning," OpenAI stated. "Over time, ChatGPT will transform from a tool you consult to one that seamlessly accelerates your important tasks and ideas."
