OpenAI has officially launched its highly anticipated update to the GPT-5 series, introducing GPT-5.2, which the company claims is the most advanced model for professional knowledge tasks to date. The organization stated that this latest iteration is designed to enhance economic productivity, showcasing improved capabilities in tasks such as creating spreadsheets, developing presentations, writing code, interpreting images, understanding lengthy contexts, and managing intricate multi-step projects. In a recent benchmark test named GDPval, OpenAI reported that GPT-5.2 surpassed industry professionals in performing well-defined knowledge work tasks across 44 different occupations. According to their findings, the outputs generated by GPT-5.2 were produced at over 11 times the speed and at less than 1% of the cost compared to expert professionals, indicating that, when utilized alongside human supervision, this AI can significantly support professional endeavors. Particularly noteworthy for the finance sector, OpenAI revealed that in an internal evaluation focused on junior investment banking analyst tasks—such as constructing a three-statement model for a Fortune 500 entity and developing a leveraged buyout model—the performance of GPT-5.2 exceeded that of its predecessor, GPT-5.1, by an average of 9.3%. Its success rate improved from 59.1% to 68.4%. The announcement comes on the heels of a recent statement from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who indicated a 'code red' situation within the company, mobilizing additional resources toward ChatGPT amid escalating competition from tech giants like Google. As the AI landscape evolves rapidly, many industry observers believe that Google, with its newly launched Gemini 3 AI model, is positioning itself as a formidable competitor to OpenAI. This story is still developing, and further updates are expected soon.
