OpenAI has announced that starting today, the ChatGPT Go subscription is now available for free in India, benefiting both new and existing users of the chatbot. This move has raised questions among current subscribers regarding the status of their paid subscriptions and whether they can access the new free offer. In response to these inquiries, OpenAI has provided clarity. Users who have previously subscribed to ChatGPT Go through the web or Android via the Google Play Store do not need to cancel their current subscriptions to take advantage of the promotional offer. OpenAI plans to automatically transition these users to the free subscription later this week. For those who subscribed through the Apple App Store, OpenAI advises checking specific redemption options by following a provided link. The company has stated, “We’ll automatically move your next billing date back by 12 months within the upcoming week. No action is required on your part. However, your subscription must be in good standing to qualify for this automatic redemption.” To be considered in good standing, users must have no missed or declined payments. If an account does not meet this criteria, the promotion cannot be redeemed until the current billing period concludes and a valid payment method is added. The ChatGPT Go subscription, which debuted earlier this year at ₹399 for a full year, offers users ten times the access to OpenAI's advanced GPT-5 model and enhanced image generation capabilities compared to the free plan. Current users will receive a notification from OpenAI to upgrade their accounts to the ChatGPT Go tier at no charge, though they will need to provide UPI or card information for automatic renewal after one year. In addition to OpenAI's offer, Reliance Jio has introduced a free Google AI Pro subscription for 1.5 years, while Airtel is providing a complimentary Perplexity Pro subscription for a year.
