OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health to connect user medical records, wellness apps

On Wednesday, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health, a groundbreaking feature aimed at enabling users to securely link their medical records and wellness applications to the AI-powered chatbot. This innovative tool is designed not to replace medical advice or treatment but to assist users in managing everyday health-related inquiries, enhancing the relevance of ChatGPT's responses by integrating personal health data. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of applications, emphasized the vision behind ChatGPT Health, describing it as a step towards transforming ChatGPT into a personal super-assistant. This assistant will provide users with information and resources to help them achieve their wellness goals across various facets of life. ChatGPT Health features a dedicated space within the chatbot, ensuring that all connected files, conversations, and applications are stored separately from other interactions. OpenAI guarantees that any information shared within this space will remain confidential and will not contribute to the training of their foundational models. In collaboration with b.well, a provider of health data connectivity, ChatGPT Health will allow users to share medical records seamlessly. Additionally, users can connect to various health services, including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, and the lab testing startup Function, among others. These connections can be established through settings within the app. OpenAI has been intensifying its focus on the healthcare sector in recent months. Following the launch of its GPT-5 model in August, CEO Sam Altman highlighted healthcare as a domain ripe for significant advancements. Earlier this year, the company also introduced a benchmark tool, Health Bench, to assess AI performance in practical health scenarios. With millions of individuals seeking answers to health and wellness questions weekly, ChatGPT Health is currently in a testing phase with a select group of early users providing feedback. OpenAI plans to broaden access to this innovative feature in the upcoming weeks.
