ChatGPT Go subscription launched in India at₹399, offers 10x usage limits

OpenAI has introduced an exciting new subscription plan named ChatGPT Go, marking its most budget-friendly option yet. Priced at ₹399 per month, this plan significantly enhances user experience by offering ten times the messaging limits, increased image generation capabilities, and file upload features, along with double the memory compared to the free version. Indian users will now benefit from the convenience of seeing subscription costs in their local currency and the ability to complete transactions using UPI. Nick Turley, the head of ChatGPT, announced via a post on X that India will be the first country to experience this rollout. The company aims to gather user feedback before considering expansion into other markets. In addition to the new plan, existing subscriptions like ChatGPT Plus and Pro can also be paid for in Indian Rupees, now priced at ₹1,999 and ₹19,900, respectively. This strategic move appears to be part of OpenAI's efforts to expand its subscriber base in India, its second-largest market. Despite boasting over 700 million weekly users, a significant portion remains on the free tier. While specific usage limits for ChatGPT Go subscribers have not been fully disclosed, previous statements from OpenAI indicate that free users have access to 10 messages to the latest GPT-5 model every five hours, along with one message to the GPT-5 Thinking model daily. Based on these figures, ChatGPT Go users could potentially enjoy 100 messages every five hours for the GPT-5 standard model and 10 daily for the Thinking model, although this may not align with OpenAI's initial messaging limits at the GPT-5 launch. Additionally, it seems that ChatGPT Go will not offer users the ability to customize personalities. Previous releases saw the introduction of four personalities—Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd—available only to Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users.
