OpenAI explores multi-billion dollar backing from Saudi, UAE and India's Reliance for AI expansion: Report

OpenAI, the organization behind the popular AI tool ChatGPT, is reportedly engaged in significant negotiations with several prominent investors, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, India's Reliance Industries, and UAE-based MGX. These discussions are centered around a substantial funding initiative projected to raise around $40 billion, as detailed in a recent report by The Information. According to sources familiar with the situation, each of these potential investors may contribute several hundred million dollars to this ambitious fundraising round, which is being spearheaded by Japan's SoftBank. The funds are intended to propel OpenAI’s extensive development of advanced AI models and to support its innovative infrastructure project known as Stargate. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has been actively traveling the globe to secure financial backing, having recently met with India’s IT Minister to discuss potential partnerships aimed at creating a cost-effective AI ecosystem. Reports indicate that Altman is also planning a visit to the UAE for discussions with MGX, a significant investment entity in the Gulf region. In addition to these efforts, OpenAI is reportedly in talks with US investment firms Coatue Management and Founders Fund to secure at least $100 million from each. The organization also has plans to raise an additional $17 billion by 2027, indicating a robust long-term strategy for capital growth.
