OpenAI is undergoing a significant restructuring within its research division, aimed at improving the way its artificial intelligence systems engage with users. According to a recent report by TechCrunch, Chief Research Officer Mark Chen informed employees in an internal memo that the Model Behaviour team will be integrated into the broader Post Training division. This transition involves the 14-member Model Behaviour team, which has been instrumental in shaping the communication style of OpenAI's models. They will now report directly to Max Schwarzer, head of the Post Training division. This team has been pivotal in defining the AI systems' 'personality', addressing issues such as excessive agreement with user prompts and managing biases in responses. The restructuring is intended to enhance the integration of personality considerations into the development of OpenAI's models. Chen emphasized that personality is now a vital aspect of AI evolution. Notably, Joanne Jang, the founding leader of the Model Behaviour team, will not be part of this reorganization. Instead, she is launching a new initiative called OAI Labs, which will focus on innovative methods for human-AI collaboration, aiming to make interactions more intuitive and effective. Additionally, OpenAI has announced plans to introduce a new job platform in 2026, designed to connect employers with candidates skilled in AI-related fields. This initiative comes in response to the increasing demand for expertise in machine learning, data analysis, and automation, especially in light of concerns about AI's impact on employment in various sectors.
