In a notable turn of events, OpenAI has successfully lured back another key talent from the Thinking Machines Lab. This marks the latest in a series of departures from the rapidly growing AI startup, which is spearheaded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Recently, the company has found itself in the spotlight due to aggressive recruitment efforts from larger tech firms. The individual making the switch this time is Jolene Parish, who joined Thinking Machines Lab in April of the previous year, as indicated by her LinkedIn profile. Prior to her stint at Thinking Machines, she spent three years at OpenAI and a decade working in security at Apple. This trend of employees returning to OpenAI isn’t new; just last month, the company witnessed the return of several notable figures, including co-founders Barret Zoph and Luke Metz, along with researcher Sam Schoenholz. Lia Guy, another researcher, also made the transition back to OpenAI, as reported by The Information. Additionally, co-founder Andrew Tulloch departed for Meta late last year, as noted by The Wall Street Journal. Both OpenAI and Thinking Machines Lab have refrained from commenting on these developments. Last year, Thinking Machines Lab successfully secured a massive $2 billion funding round, elevating its valuation to $12 billion. The startup launched its inaugural product, Tinker, in October and has gained a reputation for attracting top-tier talent. Among its recent hires is Neal Wu, a celebrated programmer with three gold medals from the International Olympiad in Informatics, and Soumith Chintala, the creator of the popular open-source AI framework PyTorch at Meta, who now serves as the CTO at Thinking Machines Lab, according to previous reports by Business Insider.
