OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Health, says 230 million users ask about health each week

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a groundbreaking platform designed for users to engage in health-related discussions with the AI. With a staggering 230 million health inquiries made weekly on its platform, OpenAI aims to create a specialized space for these important conversations. This new feature ensures that health discussions are kept distinct from users' other interactions with ChatGPT, safeguarding personal health information from being mixed with general conversations. If users attempt to address health topics outside of the ChatGPT Health section, the AI will gently prompt them to switch over. Moreover, ChatGPT Health can leverage data from personal wellness applications such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, allowing for a more personalized experience. For instance, if you mention your interest in marathon training, the AI can recall this when discussing your fitness objectives within the health context. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of Applications, expressed that ChatGPT Health is a response to significant challenges faced in the healthcare sector, including high costs, limited access, and inadequate continuity of care. Despite the potential benefits, the use of AI chatbots in healthcare raises new concerns, particularly since large language models like ChatGPT focus on predicting probable responses rather than the most accurate answers. OpenAI has clearly stated that its platform is not intended for the diagnosis or treatment of health conditions, and it will not utilize conversations from ChatGPT Health to improve its models. The rollout of this feature is set to begin in the upcoming weeks, promising to enhance how users interact with their health and wellness needs.
