
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has recently conveyed a sense of urgency within the organization, calling for a "code red" initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the popular chatbot, ChatGPT. According to various reports, Altman's memo to staff highlighted a strategic shift where resources will be reallocated from sectors such as healthcare, shopping, and advertising to focus primarily on ChatGPT's development. In a post on social media platform X, Nick Turley, the head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, emphasized that the company is committed to making the chatbot more intuitive and accessible globally. Despite boasting over 800 million weekly users, OpenAI is grappling with fierce competition from industry players like Google and Anthropic. Recently, Google unveiled its cutting-edge AI model, Gemini 3, which has garnered praise across social media for its performance and user experience. The tech giant reported that its Gemini application has reached 650 million monthly active users, while its AI Overviews feature, which appears prominently in search results, attracts a staggering 2 billion users monthly. Altman acknowledged the launch of Gemini 3 in a post, complimenting it as “a great model.” On the other hand, Anthropic is experiencing robust growth in enterprise adoption. As of September, the startup claimed to have surpassed 300,000 business customers, a dramatic increase from fewer than 1,000 just two years prior. Notably, the number of large accounts—defined as those generating over $100,000 in revenue—has surged more than sevenfold in the past year. Originally established as a nonprofit research organization in 2015, OpenAI has rapidly transformed into one of the fastest-growing commercial entities since the debut of ChatGPT three years ago. Its valuation has skyrocketed to $500 billion, driven by aggressive global technology deployment. Recently, the company has committed over $1.4 trillion to infrastructure projects, prompting speculation about the sustainability of such large-scale investments. Despite these concerns, Altman remains optimistic about OpenAI’s financial trajectory, stating the company is poised to achieve an annualized revenue run rate exceeding $20 billion this year, with aspirations to reach hundreds of billions by 2030. In a detailed post on X, he reassured stakeholders that large infrastructure projects require time, underscoring the necessity of initiating these plans now.
