On Tuesday morning, OpenAI reported a partial outage affecting users accessing ChatGPT, Sora, and its API. The company began investigating these issues late Monday night, yet the outage continued into the following day. By approximately 5:30 AM PT on Tuesday, OpenAI identified the underlying problem and initiated efforts to resolve it. However, by around 8 AM PT, the company cautioned that a full recovery of its services might take 'another few hours,' leaving many West Coast users unable to log in and use ChatGPT for work that morning. The outage has resulted in elevated error rates and increased latency for users. For instance, TechCrunch encountered an error message stating 'Too many concurrent requests' when attempting to access GPT-4o within ChatGPT. Typically, such outages are resolved within a few hours, but this incident has proven to be longer than usual. The partial outage coincides with a series of significant announcements from OpenAI. At Apple's WWDC event on Monday, the tech giant unveiled deeper integrations with OpenAI's models. Additionally, a spokesperson from OpenAI confirmed to CNBC that the company has achieved $10 billion in annual recurring revenue. Earlier on Tuesday, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, revealed an 80% reduction in prices for developers using its advanced AI reasoning models via the API. Despite previous challenges in scaling AI model usage to accommodate hundreds of millions of users, OpenAI must navigate these hurdles to realize its ambitious goals. Altman has mentioned that the company’s computing resources are currently under immense strain, indicating that the demand for OpenAI’s services shows no signs of slowing down.
