OpenAI takes on another “side quest,” buys tech-focused talk show TBPN

In a surprising move, OpenAI has announced its acquisition of TBPN, a popular technology-focused talk show known for its strong presence in Silicon Valley. This decision comes despite the company’s earlier commitment to focus solely on its core business, signaling a bold venture into the broadcasting realm. The acquisition, reportedly valued in the low hundreds of millions, brings TBPN under the umbrella of the ChatGPT creator. Since its inception in October 2024, TBPN, or Technology Business Programming Network, has garnered a loyal following among startup founders and their investors. The show features co-hosts Jordi Hays and John Coogan, who have interviewed notable figures such as Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and OpenAI’s own Sam Altman, establishing themselves as key voices in tech discussions. Fidji Simo, who oversees OpenAI's product division, emphasized the significance of TBPN in facilitating ongoing dialogues about AI and the tech community. In her communication with employees, she highlighted that the show is a crucial platform for meaningful conversations centered around the impact of AI on various sectors.
