OpenAI announces first permanent London office after halting UK Stargate project

OpenAI has officially unveiled plans for its first permanent office in London, which will accommodate more than 500 employees. This announcement follows the company's decision to put on hold a significant AI infrastructure initiative in the United Kingdom. The American AI powerhouse revealed that it has secured a lease for an expansive 88,500 square foot facility as of Monday. Earlier this year, OpenAI declared its intention to establish London as its preeminent research hub outside the United States. Currently, approximately 200 individuals are employed by the firm in the UK capital. Phoebe Thacker, who leads the London site for OpenAI, expressed enthusiasm about the new office, stating, "The UK has an incredible depth of talent and a strong track record in AI.
