OpenAI wants to put its most powerful model at all levels of government to fight hackers

OpenAI is broadening the availability of its most sophisticated AI models to assist both businesses and governmental bodies in enhancing their cybersecurity measures. This move contrasts sharply with competitor Anthropic, which advocates for stricter control over model access as a means to improve global cybersecurity. Previously, OpenAI's Trusted Access for Cyber program was restricted to a select number of partners. In a recent announcement to CNN, OpenAI revealed that it will now extend access to all verified governmental levels, from federal agencies to local offices, allowing approved individuals to utilize customized versions of its models with fewer restrictions. Sasha Baker, OpenAI's head of national security policy, emphasized the company's belief that it should not solely dictate who can access its tools and which entities should be prioritized. The company intends to return to the capital soon to gather feedback on its tools and policy recommendations. In addition to these efforts, OpenAI is reportedly preparing a proposed action plan aimed at fostering collaboration between government and private sectors on cybersecurity initiatives in what it calls the Intelligence Age.
