ChatGPT-5 is now ‘warmer and friendlier’ with latest update: here's what changed

OpenAI has revealed enhancements to its latest GPT-5 AI model, aiming to create a more approachable and friendly interaction. After receiving feedback that the initial version felt overly formal, the company has implemented subtle changes designed to make ChatGPT feel warmer and more inviting. The updates include light-hearted phrases such as "Good question" and "Great start" to foster a more personal connection. However, OpenAI assures users that this new version does not increase sycophantic tendencies compared to its predecessor, maintaining a balanced personality. The rollout of this update is currently underway and is expected to reach all users within 24 hours. Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, emphasized that users can personalize their experience even further through the Custom Instructions settings. Additionally, he teased future options that would allow for even more tailored interactions. For subscribers, OpenAI has introduced the ability to choose from four distinct personalities—Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd—enabling a customized response style. However, it's important to note that this feature is exclusively available to paying customers and does not extend to free users. Despite the anticipation surrounding the GPT-5 launch, the response has been mixed. Users expressed disappointment over the reduction in response length and emotional depth compared to earlier models. Just months ago, OpenAI faced backlash over GPT-4 being perceived as excessively agreeable; now, GPT-5 is criticized for lacking emotional nuance. Another point of contention was the removal of previous AI models, which disrupted many users' workflows and lowered usage limits for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This led to significant customer frustration, prompting OpenAI to increase rate limits for these users and reintroduce the model selection feature, allowing individuals to choose their preferred AI model for inquiries.
