OpenAI adds Shared Projects and ‘Company Knowledge’ to ChatGPT: How they work

OpenAI has announced a significant upgrade to ChatGPT, placing a strong emphasis on collaboration. The newly introduced feature, Shared Projects, allows users to work together seamlessly within the platform. This functionality is now accessible to Free, Plus, and Pro subscribers, enabling them to invite collaborators into shared chats, upload files for joint editing, and manage instructions all in one centralized location. This update represents a major advancement for ChatGPT, transforming it into a more effective tool for collective endeavors such as research, content creation, and business tasks. OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, elaborated on another exciting enhancement known as Company Knowledge. This feature aims to streamline workflows by integrating ChatGPT with popular tools like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub. It empowers users to search across these platforms, answer queries, perform analyses, and even execute actions, all utilizing a specialized version of GPT-5 tailored for professional environments, complete with citation capabilities. Lightcap expressed how this innovation has significantly changed his personal use of ChatGPT, stating that it can efficiently reason across different tools to provide answers and insights. He referred to Company Knowledge as "the most impactful thing we’ve built so far" in terms of boosting productivity in the workplace. In addition to these updates, OpenAI has expanded its portfolio by acquiring Software Applications Inc., a startup focused on creating AI-driven user interfaces for macOS. This acquisition aligns with OpenAI's mission to enhance artificial intelligence's ability to manage tasks directly on computers. Founded in 2023 by a group of former Apple engineers, Software Applications boasts a team that contributed to the development of Apple's Shortcuts app, which is designed to simplify everyday tasks on the iPhone.
