At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, OpenAI announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), unveiling plans for a large-scale implementation of its artificial intelligence tools across the company. This initiative positions TCS, India's largest IT services exporter, as a pivotal ally in OpenAI’s growth within one of its most dynamic markets. The collaboration will see TCS introduce ChatGPT Enterprise to its workforce, targeting the rollout to hundreds of thousands of employees over the coming years. This could make it one of the largest enterprise AI deployments on a global scale. Furthermore, TCS aims to leverage OpenAI’s Codex tools to standardize AI-driven software development across its various teams. In addition to enhancing enterprise capabilities, OpenAI is set to broaden its certification programs in India, with TCS being the inaugural organization to participate outside the United States. This move aims to equip a significant number of workers with essential AI skills. The collaboration also extends to infrastructure development, with OpenAI becoming the first client of TCS’s HyperVault data center initiative, initially utilizing 100 megawatts of capacity, with room to expand to 1 gigawatt in the future. OpenAI plans to establish new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year, complementing its existing presence in New Delhi, to meet the growing demand from Indian businesses and developers. Sam Altman, Chief Executive of OpenAI, emphasized India’s leadership in AI adoption, highlighting the nation’s robust tech talent and favorable government support. He stated, “With OpenAI for India, we’re focused on building the infrastructure, skills, and partnerships necessary to develop AI with India, for India, and in India.” N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, noted that this partnership signifies a significant step towards advancing India’s aspirations in artificial intelligence. He remarked, “This strategic collaboration between OpenAI and Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are excited to partner with OpenAI to create cutting-edge AI infrastructure in India, empowering the youth to thrive in an AI-driven future.”
