In a significant move to bolster artificial intelligence capabilities, OpenAI and SoftBank Group have unveiled a $1 billion investment in SB Energy. This collaboration is set to advance OpenAI's infrastructure efforts in AI, aligning with the broader $500 billion Stargate initiative that was announced last January at the White House, as indicated in a press release on Friday. Under the terms of this partnership, SB Energy will construct and manage OpenAI's substantial data center, featuring a capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, in Milam County, Texas, a project that was initially revealed in September. OpenAI's president, Greg Brockman, emphasized the synergy between the two companies, stating, “Partnering with SB Energy combines their expertise in energy development and data center infrastructure with OpenAI's extensive knowledge in data center engineering. The outcome is a rapid and dependable method to enhance computing power through expansive, efficiently designed AI data centers.” SB Energy operates under the backing of SoftBank and Ares Management.
