OpenAI has officially joined forces with Infosys to incorporate its advanced artificial intelligence tools, notably the coding assistant Codex, into Infosys’ Topaz AI platform. This strategic partnership is set to aid clients in modernizing their software development processes, streamlining workflows, and deploying AI systems on a larger scale, with an initial emphasis on software engineering, legacy modernization, and DevOps. As India’s IT service sector grapples with increased pressure from declining client expenditures and rapid advancements in generative AI, Infosys has seen its shares plunge by over 22% this year. This downturn has been exacerbated by a broader sell-off linked to disappointing forecasts, investor fears regarding the potential for AI to automate traditional outsourcing roles, and ongoing macroeconomic challenges, including tensions arising from the U.S.-Iran conflict. This collaboration is indicative of a growing trend where AI companies are partnering with major IT service providers to enhance the adoption of AI technologies across large organizations. OpenAI has previously collaborated with HCLTech, while Infosys has also formed a partnership with Anthropic. Through this alliance, OpenAI gains access to a vast distribution channel via Infosys’ extensive global client base and operational capabilities across over 60 countries. The goal is to assist enterprises in transitioning from experimental phases to large-scale implementations of AI solutions. Infosys is actively expanding its AI services, reporting that AI-related offerings generated approximately ₹25 billion (around $267 million) in revenue during the December quarter, accounting for roughly 5.5% of the company’s total income. This partnership aligns with OpenAI’s broader strategy to enhance its enterprise presence through initiatives like Codex Labs, which was unveiled recently and involves engineers collaborating with clients to implement AI tools effectively. Initial partners for this initiative include major players such as Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services, as OpenAI seeks to establish a robust distribution network to promote the adoption of Codex, which currently boasts over 4 million active users weekly. The financial specifics of this partnership have not been disclosed.
