Onfire, an innovative startup from Israel, has successfully raised $20 million in funding to help software vendors better understand developer purchasing signals. Developers often express their preferences and frustrations about tools on platforms like Hacker News, Reddit, and Stack Overflow. Recognizing this, Onfire aims to capture the buying intent reflected in these discussions. The company utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze public forums, identifying which companies the developers work for and pinpointing key decision-makers within those organizations. By integrating insights about budget cycles, Onfire assists B2B sales teams in timing their outreach effectively and providing context to their communication. Emerging from stealth mode, Onfire's funding round includes a significant $14 million Series A, co-led by prominent Israeli venture capital firms Grove Ventures and TLV Partners. Participation also came from IN Venture, the venture arm of Japan's Sumitomo Corporation, and LeumiTech77, a fund celebrating Israel's 77th anniversary. The founding team, comprising CEO Tal Peretz, CTO Shahar Shavit, and CPO Nitzan Hada, all share a background in Israel's elite intelligence unit, Unit 8200. This experience has fostered a unique approach to leveraging their intelligence expertise within the SaaS market. Since its beta launch a year ago, Onfire claims to have facilitated over $50 million in closed deals for its clients, which include companies in data, cybersecurity, and observability sectors. Despite the innovative approach, the founders’ intelligence background raises questions about ethical data usage. However, Levkowitz, managing partner at Grove, emphasizes the positive outcomes for both customers and their prospects. Onfire's strategy is to ensure that sales teams can reach out with the right offerings at the right moments. What sets Onfire apart in a crowded market is its commitment to a data-first approach, which they believe is essential for effective personalized outreach. As the enterprise sales landscape evolves, Peretz notes the necessity of contextual tools to navigate the increasing noise created by mass outreach strategies. With its unique data-centric focus, Onfire aims to fill a critical gap in the software infrastructure market, where many companies have yet to harness AI effectively in their go-to-market strategies. The startup plans to utilize its new funding for hiring in AI, research and development, and sales, with a primary focus on expanding its presence in the U.S. market.
