OnePlus India confirms CEO Robin Liu's exit amid global reset buzz

In a significant leadership change, Robin Liu has stepped down as the CEO of OnePlus India, coinciding with the company's strategy reassessment on a global scale. OnePlus acknowledged Liu's contributions and stated, "He moves on to pursue his personal passions, and we wish him the very best for his future endeavors." The company reassured stakeholders that its Indian operations will continue with a focus on local strategies and business continuity. This transition comes amid reports suggesting that OnePlus may be scaling back its presence in crucial markets such as the US, UK, India, and parts of Europe. Interestingly, the company's operations in China are expected to remain stable. In India, OnePlus is reportedly planning to revamp its product lineup, potentially narrowing its focus to budget and mid-range devices while scaling back flagship offerings. Robin Liu, who initially joined OnePlus in 2018 to lead sales operations, became CEO of OnePlus North America in 2022. He was later reappointed as CEO of OnePlus India in 2024 during an internal reshuffle that saw other leadership changes. Reports indicate that Liu's last day at OnePlus will be March 31, as he returns to China to transition out of his role. As OnePlus confronts challenges in the Indian market, where it has been losing ground to competitors such as Samsung and Vivo in the premium segment, it has announced the upcoming launch of the OnePlus Nord 6, a mid-range smartphone, slated for next month. However, the future of its flagship number series remains uncertain, leaving industry observers keenly watching the company's next steps.
