In an exciting announcement, OnePlus has revealed the processor details for its upcoming OnePlus 15R, slated for launch in India on December 17. This device will be the first in the country to feature the newly unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. OnePlus claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 offers significant enhancements, including a 36% boost in CPU performance, an 11% increase in GPU performance, and a remarkable 46% improvement in AI capabilities compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the OnePlus 13R. The OnePlus 15R will be available in two stylish color options: Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze. Additionally, the smartphone is expected to boast impressive water and dust resistance ratings of IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, similar to the OnePlus 15. This means users can expect robust protection, allowing the device to withstand immersion in water and high-pressure jets for up to 30 minutes. There have been speculations that the OnePlus 15R may be a rebranded version of the recently launched OnePlus Ace 6 in China. However, it's anticipated that the Indian variant will feature some alterations, such as the absence of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which will not be included in the 15R. Historically, OnePlus has favored using last year's flagship processors for its R series, but this trend is shifting for this launch. While the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 remains to be fully assessed, it is expected to deliver slightly lower performance than the 8 Elite, and it may become a popular choice for mid-range gaming smartphones in 2026. On the camera front, users can expect a robust setup, including a 50 MP primary lens, an 8 MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 16 MP front-facing shooter. The OnePlus 15R will feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K LTPS AMOLED display with a 165 Hz refresh rate, ensuring a smooth visual experience. Powering the device will be a substantial 7,800 mAh battery capable of 120 W wired fast charging. Design-wise, the OnePlus 15R will introduce a new squiricle camera island, moving away from the traditional circular camera module seen in previous models. Additionally, it will feature a Plus key in place of the alert slider that was prominent on its predecessor. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting launch as OnePlus continues to innovate in the smartphone arena.
