Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says CEOs who blame AI for job cuts are 'lazy'

In a recent interview with Singapore's Channel News Asia, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed strong criticism towards corporate leaders who attribute job losses to artificial intelligence. He described this perspective as 'lazy', questioning the logic behind blaming AI for layoffs when the technology has only recently become viable in professional settings. Huang pointed out that it is illogical for companies to cite AI as a reason for job cuts that occurred before generative AI tools demonstrated their value. He emphasized, 'How is it possible that AI became productive and useful only six months ago, and they were somehow laying people off two years ago because of AI?' He further argued that some executives may be using the AI narrative to appear more knowledgeable. 'I really hate that,' Huang remarked, urging leaders to take more thoughtful approaches in addressing the implications of AI on employment. His comments come amid widespread concern among workers regarding automation's potential to displace human jobs, especially in light of recent tech industry layoffs. Huang believes that the conversation surrounding AI should strike a balance, recognizing both the innovation's potential and the necessity for responsible development. 'We're scaring people and that's irresponsible,' he stated, advocating for a narrative that inspires optimism and encourages public engagement with AI advancements. Additionally, Huang shared a personal anecdote about his impromptu trip to Beijing alongside former President Donald Trump. After receiving a last-minute call, he hurriedly made arrangements to board Air Force One in Alaska, where he joined a delegation of U.S. executives. 'We were there to really represent the United States and support the president,' Huang concluded, highlighting the collaboration across industries during this significant diplomatic mission.
