Nvidia reports record sales as the AI boom continues

Nvidia has once again demonstrated remarkable growth, announcing a staggering $46.7 billion in revenue for the last quarter—an impressive 56% increase compared to the same timeframe last year. This surge is primarily attributed to the booming demand in its AI-driven data center sector, which similarly experienced a 56% jump in revenue year-over-year. The company's net income also saw a significant boost, rising to $26.4 billion, marking a 59% increase from the previous year. Data center sales alone accounted for $41.1 billion of this revenue, indicating a strong appetite among AI enterprises for Nvidia's state-of-the-art GPUs. The latest generation of chips, known as Blackwell, played a crucial role, contributing $27 billion to the overall sales. CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of Blackwell in the AI landscape, stating, "Blackwell is the AI platform the world has been waiting for. The AI race is on, and Blackwell is the platform at its center." Nvidia also highlighted its involvement in the recent launch of OpenAI’s open-source gpt-oss models, which showcased the chip’s capabilities, processing an impressive 1.5 million tokens per second on a single NVIDIA Blackwell GB200 NVL72 rack-scale system. However, Nvidia is facing challenges in the Chinese market. The company reported no sales of its H20 chip to Chinese clients in the past quarter, although it did manage to sell $650 million worth of the H20 chips to customers outside of China. The U.S. has long imposed restrictions on the sale of advanced GPUs to Chinese customers, a situation complicated by evolving geopolitical dynamics under the Trump administration. According to Nvidia's CFO Colette Kress, the absence of shipments to China stems from uncertainties surrounding the regulatory landscape. While some China-based customers have recently received licenses allowing purchases, Kress confirmed, "we have not shipped any H20 devices based on those licenses." Additionally, the Chinese government has reportedly discouraged local businesses from utilizing Nvidia chips, leading to the company's decision to pause production of the H20 chip earlier this month. Looking ahead, Nvidia anticipates $54 billion in revenue for the upcoming third quarter, although this forecast does not factor in any potential H20 shipments to China.
