Nvidia and OpenAI to back major investment in UK AI infrastructure

Nvidia and OpenAI are reportedly in negotiations to support a significant investment aimed at enhancing artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United Kingdom. According to sources familiar with the situation, the two technology giants are contemplating a substantial deal that could lead to the development of data centers across the country, potentially valued in the billions of dollars. As discussions continue, Nvidia is collaborating with cloud computing company Nscale, although an official investment agreement has yet to be reached. This deal is anticipated to be announced next week coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump's state visit to the U.K. Notably, both Nvidia and Nscale have not responded to inquiries regarding the investment, while OpenAI has chosen to refrain from commenting on the ongoing talks. Countries globally are actively courting major U.S. AI companies to bolster their national technological infrastructures. The concept of 'sovereign' AI, which emphasizes the need for domestic data processing capabilities to reduce reliance on foreign technologies, has become increasingly important for governments around the world. The U.K. government has also opted not to comment on the ongoing investment discussions involving Nvidia, OpenAI, and Nscale. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, is expected to accompany President Trump during his state visit. Earlier this year, Huang praised the U.K. as an exceptional investment destination, stating that his multitrillion-dollar chip manufacturing company would significantly increase its investments in the region. "The U.K. is in a Goldilocks circumstance," Huang remarked during a discussion with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, highlighting the favorable conditions for investment in the country.
