Nvidia CEO says AI partnership with Corning will 'revitalize American manufacturing'

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang recently shared insights on the company's groundbreaking partnership with Corning during an interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer. This collaboration is seen as a pivotal moment for revitalizing key segments of the American technology supply chain. "We are witnessing the largest infrastructure development in human history," Huang stated on Wednesday's episode of "Mad Money." He emphasized the transformative role of artificial intelligence, indicating its emergence as a fundamental component of global infrastructure, particularly in the U.S. The announcement follows Nvidia's significant partnership with Corning aimed at enhancing domestic optical connectivity manufacturing capabilities. As part of this initiative, Corning plans to erect three new facilities in Texas and North Carolina, which are expected to generate over 3,000 new jobs. Following the news, Corning's stock experienced a surge of more than 12%, while Nvidia shares rose by 6%. Huang pointed out that the surge in AI infrastructure investment presents a unique chance to reinvest in American manufacturing and supply chains, which have largely been outsourced in recent decades. He noted that the technology supply chain has predominantly flourished in regions like Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. "This is a remarkable opportunity to leverage market dynamics to reinvigorate American manufacturing for the first time in generations," he remarked. The focus of the partnership lies in optical technologies critical for connecting chips in expansive AI data centers. Huang stressed that the next wave of AI infrastructure will demand significant optical connectivity, as current copper wiring struggles to meet increasing computing needs. "We are poised to scale up optical technology at a level that no optical company has previously experienced," he explained. Huang further elaborated that the current AI investment trend is positively impacting a wide array of sectors beyond just technology firms. He highlighted a growing demand for skilled professionals, such as electricians, construction workers, chip manufacturing employees, and data center infrastructure specialists, indicating that this expansion is already influencing the broader economy. "The demand for these skilled workers is incredibly high," he stated. Ultimately, Huang views the Nvidia-Corning partnership as crucial for establishing the necessary infrastructure and supply chain to support the next stage of AI development in the U.S. "We require the collaboration and support of the world's leading companies in our supply chain to help us build and realize this future," he concluded, emphasizing the importance of silicon photonics and optical technology in this vision.
