Nvidia and Alphabet VC arms back AI startup Synthesia at $4 billion valuation

In a significant move for the tech industry, British AI startup Synthesia has secured $200 million in funding, elevating its valuation to an impressive $4 billion. This funding round was spearheaded by Alphabet's GV, with notable contributions from Nvidia's NVentures, Evantic, Hedosophia, Accel, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), and Air Street Capital. This latest investment nearly doubles Synthesia's valuation from just a year ago, when the company raised $180 million at a valuation of $2.1 billion. Synthesia specializes in creating video generation tools designed for both internal and external communications within enterprises. Victor Riparbelli, the co-founder and CEO of Synthesia, emphasized that this funding is crucial for scaling the company’s mission. He stated that their vision revolves around leveraging AI to lower content creation costs and enhance organizational communication and learning through engaging video formats. Riparbelli pointed out a unique convergence of two critical shifts: advancements in AI capabilities and a growing emphasis on upskilling and internal knowledge sharing at the executive level. As part of this funding round, Synthesia will also facilitate a secondary share sale for employees in collaboration with NASDAQ, all while maintaining its $4 billion valuation. The landscape for AI startups in Europe has been thriving, with a record $21.4 billion in private funding reported in 2025, according to Dealroom. In the U.S., AI companies attracted $162.7 billion that year, bolstered by substantial investments into leading firms like OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI. The momentum for AI funding remains strong into 2026, with reports indicating that OpenAI is exploring a $50 billion funding round involving sovereign wealth funds from the Middle East. Additionally, Anthropic is looking to secure $10 billion, while xAI has raised $20 billion. With its new funding, Synthesia aims to enhance its offerings by rolling out interactive capabilities within its AI-generated videos, allowing users to engage with content in real time. This innovation enables employees to participate in scenario-based role plays and receive customized training, moving beyond traditional passive learning methods. Since its inception in 2017, Synthesia has emerged as a leading player in the UK’s tech scene, attracting attention from notable figures including London Mayor Sadiq Khan and former Tech Minister Peter Kyle during its office opening in July. UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves praised Synthesia as a success story for the UK, highlighting its role in job creation and economic growth through innovation and supportive financial policies. The company has reported $150 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and anticipates surpassing the $200 million mark by 2026, according to CFO Daniel Kim.
