NTSB launches probe into fatal Texas Tesla crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred over the weekend in Katy, Texas, where a driver crashed into a residence, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman named Martha Avila. In the wake of this accident, Avila's family has taken legal action, filing a lawsuit against both the driver, Michael Butler, and Tesla, citing claims of negligence. This investigation is significant as it coincides with ongoing scrutiny from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Reports indicate that Butler claimed to be utilizing Tesla's Autopilot feature at the time of the crash. However, Tesla has released information suggesting that the accelerator pedal was fully depressed, overriding the vehicle's Full Self-Driving software and causing the car to reach speeds of 73 miles per hour before the collision. Despite these assertions, Tesla has yet to provide concrete evidence to support its claims. The investigations by both the NTSB and NHTSA are expected to require Tesla to submit detailed logs from the vehicle's onboard systems, which will be crucial in determining the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate accident.
