Notion, a company known for its productivity tools, is set to discontinue its email service, Notion Mail, on September 22. The decision comes as users increasingly delegate their email management to AI agents, leading the company to pivot its resources towards enhancing these intelligent solutions. According to Notion, over half of its Mail users now handle their emails without directly accessing their inbox, which highlights a significant shift in user behavior. In a post on X, Notion stated, "As Notion agents have become more advanced, we’ve observed a growing trend of users transferring their email workflows to these agents. Therefore, we are committing fully to leveraging agents for managing inboxes." While Notion Mail will no longer operate, users can rest assured that their existing email content linked to Gmail will remain safe. However, those wishing to retain drafts and scheduled emails will need to export them before the shutdown. Additionally, users are encouraged to export snippets and auto-label instructions for use in other platforms, ensuring a smooth transition. Notion initially launched its email product in preview mode in 2024 following its acquisition of Skiff, a startup focused on email security. The service aimed to merge email functionalities with Notion AI, offering features such as auto-labeling and scheduling to streamline user experience. After officially launching in April 2025, Notion Mail sought to compete with well-established services like Superhuman and Fyxer. With the rise of startups like AgentMail, which focus on creating email services tailored for AI agents, Notion's shift aligns with the growing trend of automated email management. This strategic move underscores the company's commitment to evolving its services in response to user preferences and technological advancements.
