Notion killing Skiff-influenced email app since most users use AI agents instead

In a strategic move, Notion has announced the discontinuation of its Notion Mail service, set to take effect on September 22. This decision comes just a year after the company acquired Skiff, an encrypted email and productivity platform, and subsequently launched Notion Mail in April 2025. The closure of Notion Mail reflects a significant shift in user behavior, with many relying on AI agents for managing their email rather than traditional inboxes. Notion revealed that a staggering majority of its users are opting to automate their email workflows, with over half of Notion Mail users reportedly managing their correspondence without ever directly accessing their inbox. In a recent post on X, Notion stated, "We launched Notion Mail with the belief that your inbox should think like you—becoming more personal and capable over time with AI. As our agents have evolved, users have increasingly delegated their email tasks to them." Despite shutting down Notion Mail, Notion reassured users that their email history will remain intact within Gmail, ensuring that important data is preserved. The company emphasized its commitment to enhancing AI capabilities to handle email workflows more effectively.
