The London-based tech company Nothing is reportedly gearing up to unveil a new pair of smart glasses next year, as per insights from Bloomberg citing undisclosed sources. These innovative glasses are expected to include advanced features such as cameras, microphones, and speakers, all designed to seamlessly connect with smartphones and cloud services to handle AI-driven queries. Initially hesitant about the concept of smart glasses, CEO and co-founder Carl Pei has shifted his stance. He has recently expressed to employees a desire to adopt a multi-device strategy that extends beyond the company's current smartphone and audio product lines. In addition to the smart glasses, Nothing is also set to launch a pair of AI-equipped earbuds later this year. Pei previously indicated that the company planned to introduce its first AI device by 2026, without detailing the nature of the device. If the latest report holds true, Nothing will be entering a competitive arena alongside established brands like Meta, Even Realities, and Rokid, all of which have developed their own smart glasses. Meta has already released several versions of smart glasses, showcasing models that accommodate prescription lenses this week. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Apple is preparing to launch its smart glasses next year, and that Google, in collaboration with Samsung, is also set to debut its own version this year. Last year, Nothing achieved unicorn status after successfully raising $200 million in a Series C funding round, reaching a valuation of $1.3 billion. Known for its distinct design aesthetic, which often incorporates transparent elements, the company still holds a minor share in the smartphone market predominantly ruled by giants like Apple, Samsung, and Google. Pei has repeatedly emphasized the need for innovation in both hardware and software, particularly through AI, to differentiate the brand in a crowded marketplace. Additionally, the company rolled out a tool last year enabling users to create mini apps powered by AI prompts.
