Nothing launches its most expensive flagship yet, Phone (3)

In a highly anticipated event in London, Nothing has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Phone (3), marking a significant arrival after a two-year hiatus. Starting at a price point of $799, this device is aimed at competing with industry giants like Samsung and Apple, featuring a unique design and innovative functionalities that cater to tech enthusiasts. Continuing its signature transparent design, the Phone (3) introduces an unconventional camera layout that breaks away from the typical square or round arrangements commonly found in smartphones. For those who appreciate symmetry, this new configuration may be a point of contention. One of the standout features of the Phone (3) is its revamped back panel, which replaces the previous Glyph LED system with a circular mini LED display called Glyph Matrix. This new addition showcases 16-bit styled patterns, providing enhanced visual alerts and notifications compared to its predecessor. Additionally, Nothing is rolling out mini-apps designed for this interface, featuring games like spin the bottle and rock-paper-scissors. Embracing modern trends, the Phone (3) also integrates AI capabilities, debuting two new features: Essential Space and Essential Search. Essential Space, which previously appeared in the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, has been upgraded to allow users to record meetings with AI-generated transcriptions and summaries. To engage this feature, users need to activate it with the Essential key and position the phone screen-down during recording. Essential Search enhances the user experience by enabling keyword searches for settings, files, or photos. This feature also supports natural language queries for web results, reminiscent of the enhanced Siri functionalities found in newer iPhones. In terms of hardware, the Phone (3) boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, shielded by Gorilla Glass 7i. Powering the device is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, crafted on a 4-nanometer architecture. Its camera setup includes three 50-megapixel lenses, each serving distinct functions: the main camera with a larger sensor for improved light capture, a periscope telephoto lens for 3x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide lens for expansive field views. Notably, the selfie camera has been upgraded from 32 to 50 megapixels. The Phone (3) is equipped with a robust 5,150 mAh battery (5,500 mAh for the India variant), supporting 65W wired and 15W wireless charging. It launches with Nothing OS 3.5, based on Android 15, and is promised to receive five years of software updates along with seven years of security enhancements. Available in two storage options, the 256GB model will retail for $799, while the 512GB variant is priced at $899. Pre-orders will commence on July 4, with general sales set to begin on July 15. This marks the second major release from Nothing, following the Phone (2), which will also be available through the company's website and Amazon, expanding access beyond previous beta programs.
