Smartphone startup Nothing is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated flagship device, the Nothing Phone (3), in the United States. The company has confirmed that the new model will be available for purchase through its official website and Amazon, according to exclusive insights from TechCrunch. This unveiling, scheduled for early next month in London, marks a significant milestone for Nothing, which has rolled out eight smartphones since its founding in 2020. However, only the Phone (2) has been made broadly accessible in the U.S. market until now. Previously, customers had to enroll in a beta program to obtain a phone, which lacked after-sales support, although they could return the device within 14 days for a full refund. Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing and co-founder of OnePlus, emphasized the company's commitment to long-term growth. He stated, "Phone (3) is not just another launch; it signifies our evolution as a company. The U.S. smartphone landscape is currently dominated by two major players, yet there is a substantial demand for alternatives." Pei highlighted that Nothing is witnessing a surge in users transitioning to their brand. With the Phone (3), the company intends to capitalize on this trend in a more targeted manner. He believes that the unique design of Nothing's smartphones will resonate with consumers seeking options beyond Apple, Samsung, and Google. The Phone (3) will offer enhanced connectivity, supporting both AT&T and T-Mobile networks with multi-band capabilities for 4G and 5G, a notable improvement over its predecessors. In addition to its U.S. launch, Nothing is collaborating with Best Buy to introduce the Phone (3) and its new over-ear headphones, Headphone (1), in the Canadian market. In a video released in March, Pei teased premium materials, significant performance enhancements, and upgraded software features for the Phone (3). The expected price point is around £800, which translates to approximately $1,000 in the U.S., placing it in direct competition with high-end models like the iPhone 16 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S25+. Despite its ambitions, industry analysis from Counterpoint Research indicates that Nothing's shipments for 2024 are projected to remain in the low single-digit millions, with India being its largest market. Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint, noted that while companies like Google and Motorola have made progress in the premium device sector in the U.S., established brands like Samsung and Apple still dominate the landscape. He cautioned that Nothing faces a challenging journey ahead in North America, particularly as it seeks to distinguish itself in a crowded market. To date, Nothing has successfully secured over $250 million in funding across multiple investment rounds.
