Nothing has unveiled its latest operating system, Nothing OS 4.0, which is built on Android 16. This new update promises users a refined design, improved performance, and a suite of innovative AI functionalities. The focus of this update is to enhance the user experience by simplifying interactions and introducing more efficient tools across their smartphone lineup. The interface has been revitalized, featuring standardized components and a reimagined lock screen. Quick Settings have undergone a makeover, offering a cleaner layout and larger tiles, while an upgraded dark mode provides better contrast to minimize eye strain and enhance battery life. In terms of usability, a new brightness slider allows for precise adjustments, and the Always-on Display has seen expanded options. Multitasking is set to improve significantly with the introduction of a Pop-up View that supports two floating app icons, making it easier to switch between tasks seamlessly. The incorporation of swiping gestures will allow users to quickly minimize or expand applications. Performance remains a priority, with the update aimed at delivering quicker app launches and a more responsive system overall. The Camera app is also getting a makeover, featuring new controls and creative presets, while the Gallery app will adopt a more user-friendly layout. A notable addition is the AI dashboard, which will allow users to track AI usage and manage its behavior, reinforcing Nothing's commitment to user privacy. Other enhancements include improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, greater system stability, and faster access to Bluetooth recording. The open beta program for Nothing OS 4.0 is set to launch soon, following a closed beta test on the Phone 3 last month. The rollout is expected to proceed in September, starting with the Phone 3. Other devices eligible for the update include the Phone 2, Phone 2a, Phone 2a Plus, Phone 3a, Phone 3a Pro, CMF Phone 1, and CMF Phone 2 Pro. However, Nothing has confirmed that the Phone 1 will not receive this new version as it has reached the end of its update cycle.
