Nothing OS 4.0 arrives on CMF phones, bringing Android 16 and smarter features

CMF has begun the rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, a significant software upgrade for its smartphone series, including the CMF Phone 1 and the newly released CMF Phone 2 Pro. This phased release starts with users of the Phone 1, while the Phone 2 Pro is set to receive the update in early January. Built on Android 16, Nothing OS 4.0 emphasizes refinement over dramatic changes. The update features a sleeker, more balanced interface, showcasing refreshed system icons, redesigned status indicators, and a simplified Quick Settings layout. These enhancements are aimed at creating a calmer, clearer, and more intuitive user experience. One of the key highlights of the update is the improved Extra Dark Mode, which deepens blacks, enhances contrast, and reduces power consumption. This mode also boosts readability in notifications, Quick Settings, and the app drawer. Support has expanded to first-party applications like Essential Space, further enhancing the user experience. Customization options have also been enhanced, with new widget sizes introduced, including 1×1 and 2×1 formats for applications such as Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time. This allows users to personalize their home screens with compact yet information-rich designs. Multitasking capabilities receive a significant upgrade as well, with improved pop-up view functionality. Users can now more seamlessly run and switch between two floating apps using simple swipe gestures. Additionally, a new hidden apps feature keeps selected applications out of the app drawer while allowing quick access when needed. Throughout the interface, system animations have been refined for smoother transitions, more responsive gestures, and a heightened sense of depth. The animations for opening and closing apps now include subtle background scaling, promoting a more cohesive visual flow. Enhanced haptic feedback offers gentle vibrations at both minimum and maximum volume levels, improving tactile awareness. Beyond these visual and functional improvements, Nothing OS 4.0 signifies a substantial upgrade from Android 15 to Android 16. Users can look forward to the latest security updates, performance optimizations, and platform-level enhancements. The update will be delivered via OTA in stages, starting with CMF Phone 1 users, while Phone 2 Pro users can expect the update in early January. Stay tuned for the arrival of this exciting update over the coming days.
