Nothing spins off CMF as independent brand based in India, announces Optiemus joint venture

The London-based tech firm Nothing has revealed that its sub-brand CMF will function as an independent entity, with India designated as its global headquarters for research, development, and manufacturing. This strategic move aims to establish CMF as India's inaugural global smartphone and consumer technology brand. In addition to this announcement, Nothing has forged a strategic joint venture with Indian electronics giant Optiemus Infracom. This collaboration is set to enhance production and export capabilities from India, with a significant investment of over $100 million anticipated. The partnership is expected to create over 1,800 jobs in the region within the next three years. Having already invested more than $200 million in India, Nothing underscores the growing importance of the Indian market for its operations. CEO Carl Pei emphasized, "India will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the global smartphone industry. With our comprehensive capabilities, we are uniquely poised to establish it as India's first truly global smartphone brand." Optiemus Infracom brings a wealth of experience in engineering and production, along with a strong track record in developing global export opportunities. Ashok Gupta, Executive Chairman of Optiemus, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its potential to enhance manufacturing capabilities and create export-ready products designed in India, showcasing local innovation and talent. This announcement follows recent organizational changes that have positioned India at the forefront of CMF's global operations, including the relocation of its marketing division to the country and the appointment of senior leadership roles locally. Earlier this year, Nothing secured $200 million in Series C funding, achieving a valuation of $1.3 billion, led by Tiger Global, with Indian investor Nikhil Kamath also participating.
