In a recent announcement, Nintendo revealed plans to increase prices for its original Switch systems and accessories in the United States, effective August 3. The price adjustments are attributed to current market conditions, as stated by the company on its official website. This change will affect various models, including the original Switch console, Switch Lite, and the OLED version, along with select accessories. However, Nintendo confirmed that the pricing for the newly released Switch 2, as well as both physical and digital games, will remain unchanged for the time being. The company did caution that further price adjustments might be necessary in the future. Earlier on the same day, Nintendo released its fiscal first-quarter earnings, which exceeded market expectations. The report highlighted that since its launch on June 5, the Switch 2 has sold 5.82 million units. Nintendo has maintained its sales forecast of 15 million Switch 2 consoles for the current fiscal year, although some analysts believe this estimate may be on the conservative side. The launch of the Switch 2 comes at a time marked by significant economic shifts, including the ongoing trade tensions initiated during Donald Trump's presidency. The new console, priced at $450, entered the market amidst fluctuating tariff policies. Recently, the Trump administration announced a fresh set of "reciprocal" tariffs affecting several nations, with rates ranging from 10% to 41%.
