Nintendo has announced the upcoming termination of its game voucher program, which has been a notable benefit for subscribers of its Switch Online service since its launch in 2019. This program allowed players to purchase two game vouchers for $100, redeemable for select titles from a designated list. For gamers planning to buy popular first-party titles, these vouchers represented a significant saving, potentially cutting costs by $20 or even $30, especially on high-profile games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The company revealed that while current subscribers can still purchase the vouchers until January 2026, they will no longer be available for new purchases after that date. The vouchers can be redeemed for up to a year after their acquisition, which means that players still have some time to utilize them. However, it's important to note that these vouchers were not applicable for Switch 2-exclusive titles, such as Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza. Despite the discontinuation, players will still have the chance to use their vouchers on hybrid titles like Tears of the Kingdom, which can later be upgraded to the Switch 2 edition. Nintendo has also indicated that they will continue to add new titles to the eligibility list until the program concludes in January 2026, hinting that anticipated releases like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or Pokémon Legends: Z-A could be included in the lineup.
