Nintendo Switch 2 update adds one possible fix for blurry OG Switch games

The latest system update for the Nintendo Switch 2 has brought improvements aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for players using backward compatibility. While the Switch 2 generally performs well with original Switch titles, some games have received patches to utilize the console's enhanced resolution and features. When played in docked mode, these unpatched games typically display at 1080p, providing a consistent experience across both consoles. However, issues arise in handheld mode, where games often appear less sharp due to being rendered at the original Switch's 720p resolution. This resolution is then stretched to fit the Switch 2's higher display, leading to a reduction in visual quality. The recent update, version 22.0.0, introduces a new option known as “Handheld Mode Boost.” This feature can be activated through the console's settings menu, specifically under System settings and then “Nintendo Switch Software Handling.” When enabled, it allows original Switch games to operate under conditions similar to those used in docked mode, often elevating the resolution to 1080p and enhancing graphical performance. This enhancement aims to provide a more enjoyable experience for players who enjoy classic titles on the new hardware.
