Nintendo has officially announced an increase in prices for its original Switch game consoles, set to take effect on August 3. The company attributes this decision to current market conditions, hinting at the impact of tariffs implemented during the Trump administration. The price hike will affect several models, including the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, the original Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo Switch Lite, along with specific accessories related to these consoles. Additionally, other items like certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and amiibo figures will also see a rise in price. While the exact new prices have not been disclosed, the original Nintendo Switch currently sells for $299.99, and the OLED model is priced at $349.99. Nintendo has also indicated that there may be future price adjustments for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is currently available for $450. Despite the upcoming changes, Nintendo reassured customers that the pricing for the Switch 2 system, along with its associated games and online memberships, will remain stable for now. However, the company cautioned that they may need to reassess pricing in the future. In a related update, Nintendo reported that sales for the Switch 2 console have reached an impressive 5.82 million units since its launch on June 5. To mitigate the effects of tariffs, the company has shifted a significant portion of its production from China to Vietnam, although recent changes to tariff policies could affect this strategy.
