In a response to shifting market dynamics, Nintendo has announced a price increase for its original Switch consoles and select accessories, effective August 3. The decision comes amid rising inflation, slower technological advancements, and ongoing global trade tensions that have impacted the gaming industry. The company has also delayed preorders for its upcoming Switch 2 in the United States while raising prices on various Amiibo figures, the Alarmo clock, and additional accessories related to both the original and new consoles. While Nintendo has reassured customers that there are currently no planned price hikes for the Switch 2 console, subscriptions to Nintendo Online, or physical and digital games for the new system, they have indicated that future price adjustments could be necessary. Retailers have already begun to reflect these increases, with Target listing the Switch Lite at $229.99, up from $199.99, and the original Switch priced at $339.99, a jump from $299.99. The OLED model is now being offered at $399.99, increasing from $349.99, which brings it perilously close to the anticipated price of the more powerful Switch 2 console.
